CREW

I created a casting to choose the main actress of my music video and end up choosing  girl number 3. The reason for this is because I wanted the main actress of the video to seem gentle and delicate, especially for the dancing scenes. The first two girls had a more mature face and were very tall. Even though this has not much importance, I decided to not choose them as this would create a sense of power on the main actress and my intention is to create a sense of innocence and represent the flow of life.

In the music video there is going to be only a girl dancing throughout the whole video. She is going to wear a black t-shirt and black leggings. My decision of doing this is to keep the simple idea throughout the whole music video. Even Though i will be creating an abstract video, the idea of keeping the girl really simple will help the audience get their own interpretation and not what the producer is imposing on them and the meaning. Also , another reason is because the song is about the stages of a breakup and how the artist sees the girl move on and forget him, the idea of having only one girl is to convey the idea of her passing through these stages, through her dancing and the locations that will appear throughout the video.

The reason I chose a female actress while the song has a male vocalist was to defy stereotyped roles and demonstrate that both men and women may emotionally feel the same way. This concept is strengthened by the girl's choice of black clothing, which represents sadness and emotional fragility in addition to her dance. The actress will also challenge the usual role of beauty standards by wearing no makeup and being depicted in a regular comfortable shape, rather than an unreachable goddess. This creates a sense of intimacy with the audience because they can identify with the actress in the video since they know it is an attainable beauty standard that is not subjected to the male gaze, but to a creative form of art.

PROPS

The main props I will be using for the first location are some white blankets, a bright light, and black paint. The idea of using this in the first location is to create a simple location for the girl to dance and create a simple metaphor for her dancing, her going through the breakup stages and moving on. The blankets create a more professional look, seeming that it is targeted to an older audience, however, it still gives the effect of informality and casual environment.

Another of my props was the use of the violin. The violin is an instrument that is very common in romantic films and music videos. The violin usually has connotations of tranquility and joy, relating to the feeling of a romantic relationship, however, in the music video, the use of the violin is very ironic, as it is used to represent the past moments of joy that the artist felt with their significant other and how they are unable to get over them. this also links to the idea of the use of music sheets. This is a metaphor representing the idea that the violin is a musical instrument that is played in romantic movies and the music sheet is their written love story, being played by the violin.

The black and red paint used is both key elements of the music video. The reason for this is how that black has connotations of grief, depression, and mainly negative feelings. this represents the idea of grieving that the artist is feeling towards his most recent relationship and how he is slowly letting everything in the past. Also, the use of red connotes the passion that he felt towards his past relationship, creating a connection between his mixed feelings that are being portrayed in the lyrics of the song. Finally, I sued a mini canvas in order to have a manageable piece of fabric which the main actress could portray with paint this mix of emotions.

LOCATION

IMG_8324.JPG

This is one of the locations selected for the music video. The reason for this location was to have an aesthetically pleasing white setting for the audience to relax when watching the music video. This also creates a stronger link between the indie genre as it usually uses modern and innovative locations that distinguish it from other genres. For technical difficulties, I also chose this location to have a quiet and comfortable place to film the dancing of the actress without other distractions. In my opinion, this location combines and creates a very good flow with the songs meaning and also the target audience, as it lets them a clear focus in which they can admire the video and feel identifyed.

This is another of the locations that are going to be used in the music video. My main purpose for this location was to film the burning paper scenes, as it can be very dangerous to film inside the building. In my opinion, this location was very useful when burning the paper as its outside and with the wind breeze, it can help burn the paper, giving the fire more movement and impact for the viewer.

This is my last location and it's once again a very clear, simple, and white location. Here the main focus will be the violin and the breaking of the music sheets. This will have a very unique impact on the music video, due to the clear setting that will lead the audience to focus only on one thing and lead to a better indentification of the lyrics.

In my opinion, all of my chosen locations represent the conventions of the indie genre, as it's mainly a very simplistic setting, due to the niche genre and low budget. This develops furthermore a creative and artistic representation of the songs and separating itself from mainstream music videos.
