SOCIAL MEDIA

This is my strategy for my social media, including how it will have an effect on various audiences, as well as who the target demographic will be.

WHAT IS A WEBSITE ?:

A website is an internet-accessible collection of web pages and related material. 

Websites are frequently used to disseminate information to a large audience. These can comprise news stories, product information, instructional materials, and other materials. 

E-commerce:

Numerous firms offer items and services online through their websites. Consumers may use the website to explore items, make purchases, and manage their accounts. 

Communication:

Websites may also serve as a platform for communication, such as discussion forums, blogs, or online communities. Numerous websites include entertainment alternatives such as streaming music, films, or games.

Ultimately, the goal of a website is to create a platform for individuals or organisations to fulfil their objectives, whether that is to give information, sell items, promote a brand, or facilitate communication. A well-designed website may assist in meeting these objectives by providing a user-friendly layout, compelling information, and useful features that entice visitors to return.

CONVENTIONS OF A WEBSITE:

Indie websites have a distinct look and set of meanings linked with the indie music movement.

Indie music is frequently viewed as a form of artistic expression, and indie websites may reflect this in their style and content. They may employ distinctive typefaces, colours, and graphics to give a feeling of originality and inventiveness.

musicians is typically connected with indie music. Indie websites may help with this by providing forums, message boards, and other avenues for fans to engage with one another and with the artist. 

Anti-establishment: Indie music is frequently viewed as a form of resistance against mainstream culture, and indie websites may reflect this through unique or subversive design or content. 

Generally, indie websites frequently have a distinct style and set of meanings that represent the independent music scene's principles and ethos. They may value originality, authenticity, community, and a do-it-yourself approach to music production and promotion.

HOW DOES A WEBSITE LINK TO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY ?:

Websites are significant in the music industry because they provide a platform for musicians, record companies, and other music professionals to market their music and interact with listeners. They accomplish this in part by utilising websites to promote their music, give information about forthcoming gigs, and sell items. A website helps musicians to advertise their brand, display their music, and communicate with fans. Generally, websites are important in the music industry because they allow musicians to advertise their music, communicate with fans, and sell items. They are also an important source of music news and reviews, helping to shape the debate around new albums and developing performers.

This is the online portfolio of one of my favourite artist from whom I get ideas. On the left is the first picture we see while visiting the website of indie folk performer Ben Howard. The tone of Ben Howard's website reflects the fact that he is already 35 years old. We can witness the development of his album covers over the course of his career by scrolling through his website; the cover art for his most recent album is less minimalist and more colourful, for example. According to his bio, Ben was in his late twenties when he released the album "I forgot where we were." The album's basic cover art is aimed at ageing teens who are still in the midst of the identity-formation process that comes with entering adulthood. The music video and the clothing I've designed are just two of the many features I plan to highlight on my social media profiles and the main page of my site. This is a strategy for getting people to pay attention to the product across several media platforms so that the message may sink in more deeply. The bio concludes, "Whereas Howard's previous two records featured more than their fair share of personal soul-scraping, this time around he wanted to look outwards." a reference to its earlier, more formative years in its history. It's true that he's updated and modified the look of his website and social media sites, but I've opted to appeal to my demographic by borrowing many of the same low-key aesthetic touches that have been effective for him in the past.

This is the webpage of one of the artists from which I get inspiration. This artist's homepage has a colourful yet unclear cover. James Blake, now in his mid-thirties and in a new period of his life, has upgraded the layout and aesthetics of his website, which is quite similar to that of the previous artist (Ben Howard). Yet, he preserves the uncertainty of each album's cover, giving each song a feeling of self-definition, as a critical aspect in communicating indie genre rules. I will be significantly impacted by this factor, especially since I'm targeting older adolescents for whom this is a crucial aspect of their life development. Despite the website's use of bright colours, I've opted to stick with the anti-realist and deformed debut album cover. This will establish a sense of identification in my target audience since it will reveal just enough about the artist to prevent the customer from feeling alienated.

This is the commercial website I've created for the artist. I decided to create this website to consolidate my brand identity across multiple different platforms and have a better marketing strategy. For the design of this website, I decided to maintain the same colour palette of black and white, to continue representing the artist's feelings and better clarity and identification of the song. This is also one of the main reasons why I chose to display the digipak cover on the home page of the website. My idea of doing this was to create wider marketing, and brand recognition for the consumer and create a similar web composition to the websites I've analysed, to create a stronger link with other music indie websites. 

This is another screenshot of the website were it shows the menu and what is included in the search bar. The main idea was to maintain a similar typography and colour palette as the other social media products and digipak. This was not only made for marketing but to continue expressing the same emotions that will reach our target audience. Also, across the whole website you can observe were it appears many times the social media links, having the consumers active on our social media and view the music video on the website or youtube, having everything linked to the consumer's own preference of watching the product.

This is a selection of the true artist's postings that I go to for inspiration in my own work. This is because I want to have a deeper understanding of the artist's intentions so that I may successfully imitate them and convey the message that he had hoped to convey. The artist spends a lot of time thinking about himself and the projects that he has made, like marketing clothing, for example. I will, then, make an effort to duplicate the idea of being self-centered and expressing oneself via this series of postings in the same way as he does.Young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 make up the artist's target audience. These individuals are more likely to be drawn to this sort of artist while they are going through a period of reflection in their lives, thus they are the perfect demographic to reach.

WHAT IS A SOCIAL MEDIA ?:

Social media websites and applications enable users to produce and share information as well as participate in social networking. The goal of social media is to enable user conversation, cooperation, and information exchange. 

 

There are several types of social media, each with its own distinct characteristics and goals. Social networking services such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, for example, enable users to connect with others, exchange information, and interact with one another. Another option is to use video sharing services such as YouTube and TikTok, which allow users to share videos with their followers. Ultimately, social media offers a varied set of platforms for users to create, share, and interact with one another. Individuals' use of social media is determined by their interests, communication preferences, and ambitions.

CONVENTIONS OF A SOCIAL MEDIA:

Some traditions exist on social media platforms that are shared by all platforms.

 

User profiles: Most social networking networks require users to create a profile with basic information about themselves, such as their name, profile photo, and bio. The news feed or timeline on most social media platforms displays updates and material from the persons and accounts that a user follows. 

Sharing: Users on social networking sites can share many sorts of material, such as text, photographs, videos, and links. 

Likes, comments, and shares: On social media platforms, users may engage with material by enjoying, commenting on, and sharing it.

Generally, social media platforms follow certain patterns that are intended to facilitate user connection and interaction. Since social media platforms continue to develop and add new features, these conventions are always changing.

HOW DOES A WEBSITE LINK TO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY ?:

In many aspects, social media has had a huge influence on the music industry. Artists may use social media sites like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to promote and market their music to a global audience. They may utilise these channels to communicate their songs, release dates, and tour dates with their followers. Another option for musicians to engage with their audience on a more intimate level is through social media. They may communicate directly with their followers, provide special material, and cultivate a dedicated following. Finally, social media platforms provide vast amounts of data that artists and music business experts may use to study trends, customer behaviour, and preferences. Ultimately, social media has transformed the music industry, making it easier for musicians to market their music, communicate with their fans, and connect with other industry experts than ever before.

Here is the layout and links to the social media pages used by James Blake. Throughout the three platforms we can admire a sense of truth without any specific pattern to post each photograph. However, it is obvious how he uses the three platforms to portray his album covers, releases and tours to reach all of his target audiences. He may have done this to reach to a wider target audience and keep creating a close bond with their older followers. James Blake has matured since his first album, retrograde, however he still keeps the concept of individuality and truth in his social media, keeping the conventions of the indie genre. this has inspired me in my future social media page as he keeps the same layout and colour palette, however, it is not planned and seems instant, without any editing process, inspiring me to create the same concept of truth far away from the mainstream concept. Also, James Blake's social media presence is often active and engaged. He uses his platforms to engage with his fans, promote his music, and express his thoughts and hobbies. He also utilises his platforms to tackle significant social and political topics, demonstrating that he is not afraid to use his influence to effect positive change. In Twitter he mainly tweets constantly about his music, future gigs, and collaborations with other musicians. He also discusses social and political problems such as racism, mental health, and politics on his platform. In instagram he uses it for a similar purpose; He shares photos and videos of his daily life, as well as information on his music and gigs. He also uses Instagram to support other artists as well as to highlight his personal hobbies, which include art and fashion. Finally, in Facebook He utilises the site to publish information about his music and gigs, as well as articles and videos about his hobbies. all of the three social media platforms are ultimately to see his brand and post about his daily life to keep his followers active and close to him.

Here we can observe how throughout the three platforms Ben Howard is very active and post a variety of graphic design photographs, with an ambiguous touch. This will attract his target audience due to the clear separation of the mainstream media and through the use of three platforms it will reach a wide variety of ages , increasing its viewers. Ben Howard's social media presence is centred on his music and personal interests, notably his love of nature and environmental concerns. He uses his platforms to engage with fans, promote his music, and share his principles and hobbies. He also utilises his platforms to raise awareness about vital causes, demonstrating that he is more than simply a musician, but also an activist who is passionately concerned about the state of the world around him. we can notice this specifically in his use of twitter, Facebook and instagram. In instagram he mainly shares photos and videos of his daily life, as well as information on his music and gigs. He also uses Instagram to raise awareness of environmental and social issues that are important to him, such as climate change and mental health. The idea of raising awareness for mental health will convey his target audience as his songs are usually very introspective and uses the idea of emotional fragility to create deeper meaning and identification.  For Twitter is the same purpose as instagram, however , in Facebook it varies a bit more by also sharing personal photograph of his hobbies. overall he uses the three platforms to reach a wider audience with the same content in each one of them. This has inspired me to create my own three social media platforms to reach my main target audience , however, it will also reach more viewer creating more profit for my new song.

I decided to introduce a variety of colours in his social media page to create a feeling of informal and more personal to the viewer. Even though I have altered the colour palette, the emotion transmitted by the position and outfit of the artist is maintained. I have also created merchandise to promote the artist digipak as social media is a big source for marketing strategy as fans can wear the clothing and reach wider demographics.  to create a more dynamic page I have created posters with the artists face in order to alert the audience of the out coming merch. in the social media there is also a created reels in slow motion, this is to grab the viewers attention and let them know about the release of the song with a small video. The use of the grey and red tones creates a direct link with the music video release as it links perfectly with the flashbacks and imagery that appears. this creates a stronger use of branding for the artist to increase the sales and viewers. I decided to create a very simplistic merch to convey the artist ideology and emotions, however, this is not the only reason as having a simple design. having a simple design is a better marketing strategy to establish with more ease the brand , the artist and to recognise what they are wearing. In the biography of the artist instagram it appears a direct link to the artists website which lead to the merch appearing in the social media, tour dates and the music video. This same marketing strategy with the photographs and links of the websites appear in his other two social media pages ( Twitter and Facebook) to increase the target audience and sales. The idea of having links across three media platforms was to attract audiences from all ages and let them experience all the options the artist offers.
