This is portrayed through the dull colour pallet with the darkness at night. the mise en scene of the video is very simplistic with a very contrasting lighting. This can be seen as its at night, however, you can see everything clearly creating a sense of confusion for the viewer. The video begins with a view of James Blake standing in a clearing surrounded by trees in a deep forest with a  Slow pans around him creating a sense of calm and reflection. The picture progressively changes as the story of the song advances, with the forest opening up and revealing a hazy, countryside. Blake continues to sing, his voice booming across the desolate landscape with The camera turning to a close-up of Blake's face, which is partially veiled by shadows, as the chorus begins. This adds mystery and ambiguity to the song, underlining the singer's emotional difficulties. The camera then pans back to see Blake standing on a rocky coastline, surrounded by breaking waves implying a need for solidity and anchoring. The usage of light and shadow is meticulously handled throughout the film to create a feeling of drama and emotion. The foggy settings, striking contrasts between light and dark, and extreme close-ups of Blake's face all add to an atmosphere of contemplation and sorrow.
