GENRE RESEARCH
The indie genre, short for independent music, emerged in the 1980s in the United Kingdom and the United States as a reaction to the mainstream music business. Originally, the term "indie" referred to independent record labels that were not linked with larger companies or businesses.
Indie music was distinguished by its ambiguous mentality, with bands and performers making and distributing their own material outside of regular music business channels. Indie music was frequently connected with the genres of alternative rock, punk rock, and post-punk, and was recognised for its raw, unpolished sound and anti-establishment stance. however, nowadays indie music encompasses a wide range of styles and sounds, and it remains a dynamic and prominent element of the music business.
In the video on the left we can see a clear example of one of the first 1980s bands called The Smiths. this was one of their first music videos and we can see very clearly how it is a very simplistic and opposite to mainstream music or music videos. This simple notion, as seen in the video, was explored by many bands and independent artists over the years. Even if the themes are more current, the song's and music video's straightforward and profound notion remains the same.
Indie music and videos are generally defined by their independent attitude, , and eclectic blend of styles and inspirations. Indie music videos, in particular, may be extremely innovative and aesthetically arresting, frequently use unique techniques and non-linear storytelling to tell a story or express an emotion. Indie music videos frequently leave the narrative open to interpretation. The video may contain strange or abstract visuals that does not always correspond to the lyrics of the song.
Natural landscapes and outdoor locations:
are frequently included in indie music videos .They can be used to evoke nostalgia or a sense of connection to a certain time and location.
Quirky or eccentric components:
Indie music videos frequently include surprising or quirky elements that provide a distinctive touch to the visuals. These might involve unconventional camera angles, props, or costumes. .
Realism is typically prioritised above glossiness in independent music videos.

I've picked three pictures from the video to show how the video is primarily focused on performance rather than adhering to normal popular norms. Also, when we watch the film, we can see how much of the plot is abstracted and how the hand-held camera is used to create this basic and distinct effect. Lastly, the choice of an older camera produces the impression of a distinct aesthetic touch and the notion that realism takes precedence over glossiness.

With this more knowledge on the genre and the shots utilised, I plan to incorporate and apply as many of these conventions in my music genre as possible. This will help me gain a larger audience and develop a stronger feel of the indie genre.
